How Does A Fractionated Laser Work?
Fractionated laser treatment is designed to target aging and damaged skin by creating microscopic “wounds” within the targeted areas well beneath the skin’s outermost layer. In this way, the healing of the “wounds” triggers the body’s own natural production of new collagen and skin cells. And because normal skin is present in between the micro-columns, healing and skin recovery is expedited as compared to non-fractionated skin resurfacing. This treatment combines the impact of ablative lasers with the gentleness of non-ablative lasers.
What conditions are treated by Fractionated Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Melasma (Mask of Pregnancy)
How many treatments are required?
An initial series of four treatments are recommended to achieve the desired results in most patients. Some patients will require additional treatments to help achieve more dramatic results. Every patient is assessed for individual treatment recommendation.
Are there any side effects?
Treatments are safe and effective and have minimal down time. Redness which resembles a sunburn may be expected for two to four days after each procedure. Long term side effects are not common and are discussed with every patient based on their individual skin condition.
Does the treatment hurt?
A warm sensation which lasts several minutes may be experienced.A topical numbing cream is applied before the treatment which helps ease any discomfort. Some patients may choose to receive additional pain medications depending on the type of treatments and other considerations.

A NOTE FROM DR. RUBINSTEIN:
Los Angeles Dermatologist Dr. Gene Rubinstein often recommends laser treatment for acne scars after the patients have undergone treatment for acne conditions. Acne should be resolved before Fraxel or ResurFX treatment can be performed. Many effective acne treatments are available and treatment is customized to every patient. “We treat a lot of acne in teens and adults with Levulon ALA Photodynamic (PDT) Laser Acne Treatment” ” says Dr. Rubinstein, Board Certified Dermatologist. “PDT and Fraxel/ResurFX treatments go hand in hand, after the acne is cleared, we can progress into clearing the skin’s surface and smoothing out the acne scars”.
